Here is one for the gals. Oakley has released a tote style bag with two LEDs inside that light up when you open the bag. It also has internal organizer pockets, zipped top flap closure, external sleeve pocket and external zippered pocket for storage, compressionstraps with D-rings, durable PVC bottom, and label accent. Kenpo iPod jacket

Another ipod controlling jacket has been introduced by Kenpo, but retailing for as much as $275 I think many will think twice before bying what really is just a gigantic wearable remote control.
It’s supposed to enable wearers to keep their iPod safely in the inner pocket while navigating the device through a sewn in control system on the lower part of the jacket’s sleeve.
The remote is made of a special kind of smart fabric and touch-sensitive buttons that are supposed to be identical to those found on the iPod.

Mikey Sklar is definately a busy bee. One of his projects are an answer to the privacy issues raised by the introduction of RFID. As these tags have become more pervasive, how does the consumer avoid being tracked? What he does is to show you how to build a homemade faraday cage around your RFID tags. The project describes how the average person can rip out a pocket from a pair of jeans and replace it with a cotton like fabric which contains enough conductive material to block most RFID tag frequencies.

This project was created as a workshop for a DIY event Swap-O-Rama-Rama which takes place in NYC on Sunday, October 9th 2005.

What you need is:

1. 1 pair of jeans
2. 1ft of NaturaShield Fabric

Brightfeet - slippers with lights

I very cute idea indeed, and helpful when you need to get up and get that glass of milk in the night.
Inside each slipper there’s a weight sensor which activates the LED in the front. The light is even angled a little upwards in order not just to project the floor and can, according to Bright Feet, illuminate an area in front of you at a distance of 20 to 25 feet. The built-in timer will automatically switch off your slippers after a certain time interval. For $40 you even get the 2 batteries needed to power each slipper.

Networked clothing - The Flirtskirt

An artsy project with a social backdrop. That was the idea behind the Flirtskirt. The apparel features tri-color Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) that wearers can adjust to their mood or preference. The wireless sensors on the skirts makes the light pulsate and change color when it senses another user equipped with the same brand. The concept is to use technology to create conversations and common interests like when two strangers walking dogs or using the same brand of technology are more likely to strike up a conversation.
When two wearers start mingling the apparels start to change color and the in the end they will share a common colormix.

Toyota replaces keys with watches

One of the major players in the car industry, Toyota, is planning to introduce a new and innovative way to unlock the car. This handy watch will probably make use of RFID to transmit a radio signal to the car once the hand is close enough, or in other words, you reach the door handle and the car magically unlocks. Developed in cooperation with Citizen, they’ll be introduced in the coming weeks to the Japanese market. As usual the Japanese will have all the fun first…

Roseanna Kilfedder comes to the rescue for every woman trying to find her keys in the bottom of the bag. (And for the male counterpart it’s an equal relief as we don’t have to witness the embarrassing scene of a woman emptying the contents on the porch with a desperate cry.) The lining is made of electroluminescent material which is lit up by the zip. Everything is powered by a battery connected to a flexible solar panel mounted on the side of the bag. As a bonus the bag can also be used as a charger for cell phones or other gagdets women normally carry around.

BMW MP3 Sunwear

Why BMW wants us to wear these glasses, is a mystery to me. Oakley has failed before with a similar design and product and I really don’t think that a BMW logo on the side will make any difference.
The technical specs are also quite standard. The BMW Sunwear features Flash memory with an integrated USB device that can offer a steady stream of tunes in both an MP3 and Windows Media (WMA) format. The 512 MB model holds or stores eight hours of music in the MP3 format, 16 hours in Windows Media and can store up to 36 hours of voice recordings. For those who enjoy extended listening pleasure, the 1 GB model holds or stores 16 hours of music in the MP3 format, 32 hours in WMA format and stores up to 72 hours of voice recordings. The two models will retail for $295 and $395.
