X-Woofer wearable speaker system

I really don’t think this product will be a great success, with the meager 1 watt speakers and the plastic appearance. And according to the review on Hardwarezone, it’s better to spend your hard earned money on something else. But I still somehow like the idea about wearing something more powerful than an ordinary headset. But then again, who wants to carry arround their 100 W boombox around the neck?

The Bodyrest audio stress relief

Everbody knows that music can have an effect on how you feel. And what you want to listen to according to what mood you’re in. Sonic in Sweden have come up with a wearable way to “release tension, worries and help us relax, hence improving our wellbeing.” The prototype BodyResT is based on a biofeedback technique that trains individuals to improve their health by listening to their own body’s signals. It will measure the individual’s stress level through a physiologic parameter. This will then be reflected in the music.

The Head wearable communication sculpture, bag or …

More of an art project, but I found the idea intriguing:
“The Head is a wearable sculpture with connection to internet and public access via mobile phone/sms.
The Head is available for adoption for the public. When someone adopts the piece they become responsible for it. Ideally the Head should follow its “foster-parent” everywhere s/he may go or alternatively placed in a location of their choise. The head contains a mobile phone, which is embedded in such a way that the camera of the phone functions as an eye of the head-sculpture.

Power bag

The COMMUNITY POWER BAG prototype generates solar electrical power for white solid state lighting for community groups of up to six persons in an expandable textile enclosure weighing 2.5 pounds. Approximately four hours of charge time provides two and half hours of digital light at 80 lumens from six individual textile lanterns. These sources may be combined to create 480 lumens of digital light for community gatherings and trades such as tortillerías, bakeries and repair workshops. In its energy harvesting position, the prototype unfolds from a portable shoulder bag to a solar charging canopy that absorbs sunlight.

Suunto G6 Golf Watch

I’ve never been much of a golfer, but here’s the perfect excuse to improve those swings. The new Suunto G6 enables the golfer to discover the perfect swing. After each swing, they can check their tempo, rhythm, backswing length and speed. This feedback helps identify the best shots, developing muscle memory to repeat only the good shots. After the session, the players can analyze their overall consistency. During the Game Suunto G6 simplifies scorekeeping, completely erases the need for paperwork and memorizes information such as scores and handicaps. Four different game types ensure that every golfer can enjoy Suunto G6 the fullest. During the round, the Suunto G6 constantly updates the leader and thus allows players with different handicaps to compete seriously. But do we really need this thing to tell us that we’re not exactly Tiger?

Intelligent patient wristband to reduce medication errors

Medication errors, caused by the incorrect medication or dose being given to the patient, cause over 1200 deaths a year. This can be due to drugs having similar packaging, illegible handwriting on the drug chart or incorrect identification of the patient.

Brunel Industrial Design and Technology student, Claire Dunne, has designed a reusable intelligent identity wristband that should eliminate patients being given the incorrect medicine.

Called Brilliant, the wristband works by using a sensor to match medicines against the patient. Brilliant scans electronic tags built in to the medicines packaging – making sure it is of the correct type.

Claire believes by electronically matching the drugs to the patient, her system would prevent these situations and ensure that human error is dramatically reduced.

How it works

The innovative wristband contains a sensor to scan medicines and a chip. The chip is programmed on the patient’s arrival at the hospital, with the patients’ details and drug requirements. The patients’ details are displayed on two small screens built into the wristband, which update when the drug is touched against the sensor.

The bracelet works in conjunction with electronic chips attached to the medicines packaging (called an iButton). When the drugs packaging is touched against the sensor on the wristband, Brilliant can recognise whether it is the correct drug or not.

The wristband then informs the nurse if the correct drug has been selected or not by displaying this information on the wristband’s screens. Each time a dose is given the date and time are logged in the chip contained inside the wristband.

This information can be downloaded on to a computer at the end of the patient’s stay in hospital for billing and auditing purposes. The wristbands electronics module is also re-usable by simply wiping the information on the chip.

Sirius wearable music player

SIRIUS Satellite Radio has presented its first wearable satellite radio, the SIRIUS S50, a nifty looking little thingy.

The SIRIUS S50 measures just 1.9 by 3.9 inches and 0.7 inches thick, and includes a full color display, sleek black exterior and voice-assisted channel navigation. When attached to a home dock, car dock or executive docking station, the SIRIUS S50 provides easy access to live content, and captures and stores both scheduled and unscheduled programming. (For those unaware Sirius is one of the biggest US Satellite Broadcasters.)

The SIRIUS S50 stores content in a variety of formats for listening on the go, including “My SIRIUS Channels,” “My SIRIUS Songs,” “Scheduled Record,” and “My Playlists.”

Sirius is one of the numerous companies trying to make a dent in the digital music market, which is currently dominated by Apple Computer’s iPod.

The S50 is set to start shipping in October for $359. The price includes a car dock.

Content can be recorded and stored in different sections such as “My Sirius channels,” which automatically gathers programming from a person’s three most-listened-to channels.

“My Sirius songs” lets people save their favorite music, while the “scheduled record” feature can be used to capture favorite shows on a one-time or recurring basis. Playlists can also be created with MP3/WMA files by connecting the home dock to a PC.

Homeland Security Blankets

Allthough this is just a prototype (and an art project) it definately caught my curiosity. With the help of RF tags, wireless hub and an internet connection the blankets will respond to the Homeland Security Acts fluxuating, color coded “Threat Levels”. As a means to “disseminate information”, these blankets disseminate temperature change and an indicating light which alerts the user of current threat and comforts them accordingly. How comforting… (from Futurefarmers)

Another solution can be the Chrissy Homeland Security Blanket Not very hitech, but supposedly very comforting… And the whole shebang for only 850$ - but then again it’s a limited edition of 100. (from Bookofjoe)
