Oakley Low Voltage Led Bags
Here is one for the gals. Oakley has released a tote style bag with two LEDs inside that light up when you open the bag. It also has internal organizer pockets, zipped top flap closure, external sleeve pocket and external zippered pocket for storage, compressionstraps with D-rings, durable PVC bottom, and label accent. The lot will set you back around $100 at the Oakley Store.

Handbag goes solar
Roseanna Kilfedder comes to the rescue for every woman trying to find her keys in the bottom of the bag. (And for the male counterpart it’s an equal relief as we don’t have to witness the embarrassing scene of a woman emptying the contents on the porch with a desperate cry.) The lining is made of electroluminescent material which is lit up by the zip. Everything is powered by a battery connected to a flexible solar panel mounted on the side of the bag. As a bonus the bag can also be used as a charger for cell phones or other gagdets women normally carry around.

The Solar Power Purse
The brain behind this neat little purse is Joe Hynek who is a doctoral student in mechanical engineering at Iowa State University. This aptly named “power purse” is made of thin, flexible solar cells, that can recharge batteries and other electronic devices. Form and function in one stylish package.

O’Neill solar bag
Happy days for solar bag lovers these days. This time it’s O’Neill’s turn. The H2 Solar bag is specially made for the skiers and boarders. The solar cells will charge the mobile via an USB adapter and the iPod. You can also easily connect the iPod headphones via easily accessible connector on the shoulderstrap. The mobile can rest inside the bag and when you recieve that important call about the afterski party, the music will be interrupted automatically and the conversation will be transmitted through the headphones instead of the music. The microphone is mounted inside the other shoulderstrap. Quite neat…

The Head wearable communication sculpture, bag or …
More of an art project, but I found the idea intriguing:
“The Head is a wearable sculpture with connection to internet and public access via mobile phone/sms.
The Head is available for adoption for the public. When someone adopts the piece they become responsible for it. Ideally the Head should follow its “foster-parent” everywhere s/he may go or alternatively placed in a location of their choise. The head contains a mobile phone, which is embedded in such a way that the camera of the phone functions as an eye of the head-sculpture.

Power bag
The COMMUNITY POWER BAG prototype generates solar electrical power for white solid state lighting for community groups of up to six persons in an expandable textile enclosure weighing 2.5 pounds. Approximately four hours of charge time provides two and half hours of digital light at 80 lumens from six individual textile lanterns. These sources may be combined to create 480 lumens of digital light for community gatherings and trades such as tortillerías, bakeries and repair workshops. In its energy harvesting position, the prototype unfolds from a portable shoulder bag to a solar charging canopy that absorbs sunlight.
