Kenpo iPod jacket

Another ipod controlling jacket has been introduced by Kenpo, but retailing for as much as $275 I think many will think twice before bying what really is just a gigantic wearable remote control.
It’s supposed to enable wearers to keep their iPod safely in the inner pocket while navigating the device through a sewn in control system on the lower part of the jacket’s sleeve.
The remote is made of a special kind of smart fabric and touch-sensitive buttons that are supposed to be identical to those found on the iPod.

Networked clothing - The Flirtskirt

An artsy project with a social backdrop. That was the idea behind the Flirtskirt. The apparel features tri-color Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) that wearers can adjust to their mood or preference. The wireless sensors on the skirts makes the light pulsate and change color when it senses another user equipped with the same brand. The concept is to use technology to create conversations and common interests like when two strangers walking dogs or using the same brand of technology are more likely to strike up a conversation.
When two wearers start mingling the apparels start to change color and the in the end they will share a common colormix.

Motorcyclists chill down with space technology

I know this picture looks kind of, eh, strange, but it’s definately not what it seems. This is actually a specially designed motorcycle jacket that keeps the rider cool inside the suit, helping to maintain a low body temperature even in sweltering desert temperatures. The technology used was originally developed for astronauts’ space suits. Internal cooling is needed to allow astronauts to withstand high temperatures occurring during sun exposure in open space.

Intelligent clothing inspired by pine cones

A new type of ’smart’ clothing which adapts to changing temperatures to keep the wearer comfortable is being developed using nature as a guide.

The wearables will use the latest in micro technology to produce material which will let in air to cool a wearer when it is hot and shut out air when it is cold. This is similar to a system used by pine cones to open up and emit seeds.

According to the scientist behind this technology, the days when it’s difficult to dress to match the changing temperature, are over. (We’ll se about that ‘he knowingly says’)

Ronin Spy Jacket from Burton

This jacket has recieved a fair amount of critisism, somewhat justified. But if you happen to be a happy gadget loving person who got a strange urge to spy on people, hey, don’t let anyone stop you buying this gem. With it’s built in VGA camera it’s just to start snapping those candid photographies (nudge, nudge). For the rest of us - it’s just a bit TOO idiotic. Wearable intelligence that cost 400 GBP.

Cold war counter-intelligence.

From decoding rails to documenting the destruction, the Ronin™ Espionage™ Jacket, complete with a low-profile custom digital camera, is the stealth solution for winter warfare. An innovator in integrated outerwear, the fully taped 3L™ shell comes equipped with a removable 2L™ insulated vest. With a couple quick snaps, remove the vest and run with just the essentials.

ScotteVest

Well, I don’t know how haute this ScotteVest jacket really is, talking design here, but practical - definately. Instead of stuffing all your gear in pockets which were designed for something completely different, you can stuff it into specially constructed gear pockets. You can also hide the wires of MP3 players inside the jacket. It features incredible 40 pockets and compartments, battery holders, etc etc…. Cool no, practical yes.

Homeland Security Blankets

Allthough this is just a prototype (and an art project) it definately caught my curiosity. With the help of RF tags, wireless hub and an internet connection the blankets will respond to the Homeland Security Acts fluxuating, color coded “Threat Levels”. As a means to “disseminate information”, these blankets disseminate temperature change and an indicating light which alerts the user of current threat and comforts them accordingly. How comforting… (from Futurefarmers)

Another solution can be the Chrissy Homeland Security Blanket Not very hitech, but supposedly very comforting… And the whole shebang for only 850$ - but then again it’s a limited edition of 100. (from Bookofjoe)
